Sporting News

I assume we're in agreeance that we just witnessed the most raggedy 12-4 season in the history of professional football, right? Oh how spoiled I have become! Looking ahead, one holds out hope that Patrons can punish teams with the run and control the clock. Regardless of who we beat in the first round (so happy to see Denver down right now) our offense is not nearly potent enough to go toe to toe with the likes of San Diego and Indianapolis in high scoring affairs. But who knows, the run game seems to have disappeared when we least expect it.

The C's are in town tonight but I ain't going. There are fireworks at the Space Needle and going to see the hometown team sans Paul Pierce is not worth being dumped out into that madness following the game. So I'll watch on television. It shall be my first extended look at the 06-07 Boston Celtics.

Football details

Anyone want to fill me in?

(And on the absence note... sorry again. Though anyone is invited to come here and play, and if they do so probably draw Steven up from Philly as well).

Trade Analysis

Let's go, Louis. I want numbers I don't understand and all that good stuff.

EDIT: On an unrelated note, I was unable to find a YouTube video of Walter McCarty singing "Chestnuts Roasting O(n) A(n) Open Fire," but Merry XMas nonetheless.

SFL Playoffs

3-3 after one quarter. Secules Inc. has the LCS bubbly on ice....

To clarify, Bryan trailed Ben 149-89 entering Monday. But Bryan has Carson Palmer, Peyton Manning and Joseph Addai in his employ. Ben is featuring Houshmanzadeh on this evening's menu.

Also, on the other side of the playoff bracket, Penny and Smitch are near dead-locked in a 132-130 clash as we speak. Smitch trails but has Reggie Wayne and Rudi Johnson on the field, while Penny is rolling with Ocho Cinco.

Huge night in the SFL.

15 just feels a little excessive. Scratch that, it feels a lot excessive.
How will this impact any Joiner brother fights at the Christmas football games?

If it's not too much...

... I'll tell you about Coney Island.

The journey started at 11 p.m., as Grant left my apartment in Astoria to meet Scrodes Brother Once Removed Jeffrey Smadbeck and noted CC runner Dean Golder in the East Village for some drinks. They ended up at Cheap Shots, where they drank beer and played Connect Four all night, (picking up where Grant and Steven had left off on Saturday, as they had played on a blackboard while we waited for pizza). At 3:30 a.m. Grant left the bar and got on the N train to Astoria, which is about a 35 minute trip once the train comes.

Now, falling asleep on the train is not exactly rare, and missing your stop kinda sucks, but at least if you're going to my house, it's not so bad because I live near the end of the line. Grant did, in fact, fall asleep and miss my stop but unfortunately did not wake up in the 15 minutes the train was stopped before it turned around and began its 90 minute trip to Coney Island... where he woke up at about 5:45 a.m. Dazed, he staggered from the train as the doors actually closed on him to return back to Astoria, but the train conductor, reading the situation like Asante Samuel reads a QB's eyes, waved him back on the train with a knowing nod. After his train went out of service within spitting distance of my house, he walked back in at about 7:25, giving him enough time to recount this story to me before, presumably, passing out.

Given his brief stay in Joel Weintraub's former playground, he was unable to confirm if there were indeed "fireworks making movies in the sky," but he did hear some tasty guitar licks as the train pulled away...

The Seahawks are crumbling!

The Branch pick looks prettier and prettier.

Still, we could use a number one receiver...

I don't want to jinx it...

But this is promising news.

Hey hoops fans

Greatest. Basketball. Post. Ever.

I almost forgot

Over Thanksgiving Bryan and I sat down for a few games of NHL 95. The results of our seven game series, Grant in 4.

Wednesday, December 6

Poetic ending to the C's game, eh?

Rudy Gay. Coulda had him.

Sebastian Telfair. Do we want him?

Tuesday, December 5

Drew and Lugo are in the mix

1. Lugo SS
2. Youkilis 1B
3. Ortiz DH
4. Ramirez LF
5. Drew RF
6. Lowell 3B
7. Varitek C
8. Crisp CF
9. Pedroia 2B

Does Youkilis make sense hitting second? Maybe Crisp 2. If he returns to form he would fit quite nicely there, I think. It is assumed that Lugo will hit leadoff, right?

Now for a closer. Does Gagne really have anything left? He was clearly juicing like a mofo, right?

Scrodes Ball Update

1. Secules Inc. 11-2-0 .846 1959
2. Punk Rock Tittays 9-4-0 .692 1859
3. The Patented Run 9-4-0 .692 1837
4. Free Pie And Chips 5-8-0 .385 1725
5. Mi Scusi 3-10-0 .231 1349
6. Access Panel 2-11-0 .154 1432

With one week to go in the regular season Mi Scusi has busted out of the cellar and Ben has taken a stranglehold on the points lead.

Hotness is the new Cookies

Sportscenter just alerted me to the awesome fact that Gilbert Arenas has started yelling "Hibachi!" whenever he's feeling it. How freaking great is that?
