Pros and Cons
From Gabe Pruitt's bio on the USC website:
Nicknamed "Smilin' Gabe." Is an undecided major at USC and would like to become a computer engineer. His favorite food is french fries. Likes to watch "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and "Family Guy" and his favorite movie is "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls." Says the best part of being at USC is being part of the Trojan Family. Likes listening to Lil Wayne, Eminem, Jay-Z and T.I.
By all accounts Gabe Pruitt is a 12 year-old living in late 20th century.
From Glen Davis' Wikipedia article:
He can eat 31 hot dogs in 3 minutes as seen on the campus of LSU. Davis' move to an NBA city will be a welcomed one by the recently turned pro. He will look to rid himself of the corndog smell often associated with fans and players of Louisiana State University.
By all accounts Glen Davis' Wikipedia article was authored by a 12 year-old living in the early 21st century.

But seriously, let's discuss Ray Allen. The far the reaction to his acquisition seems to be overwhelmingly negative. It is hard to discern at this point whether Celtics fans are genuinely disgusted by the trade, or simply disgusted by the reign of Danny Ainge in general and quick to be critical of each move he makes without considering their merits.
Where I stand on the move is tough to pinpoint. I've already been back and forth on this several times and as near as I can tell at worst they have passed up a few good but not great players in Jeff Green, Corey Brewer and Yi Jianlian, and at best they have given themselves the opportunity to finish second in the Atlantic Conference and earn themselves a first round exit from the playoffs. So you see, whether I come down strongly on one side or the other is irrelevant because in the end this was essentially a lateral move.
Yes, Jefferson's post up game will be aided by the dual threat of Pierce and Allen on the outside. Yes, watching Allen's beautiful jump shot is worth the price of admission. Yes, Doc made a fine point in his comments on ESPN during the draft when he said that no longer will be the C's offense be lost when Pierce goes to the bench for a breather. But then there are these: Yes, Allen is 32 years-old, has problems with both ankles, is not known for his defensive prowess and needs the ball in his hands as much, if not more, than Paul Pierce.
My friend Imran views the trade as giving up quantity for quality and I'm inclined to agree with him. Allen is by far the best player involved in the deal. West, I believe, has peaked, Wally is useless and removing that contract is glorious--indeed that fact alone makes the entire trade worthwhile. But ultimately this is a short sighted deal and yet another trade in a long line of trades that displays Ainge possesses no grand vision for the future of this roster. One trade after another, generally made to repair the damage from a previous trade. This deal seems as though it was made almost entirely out f a desire to appease Pierce. That's cool, I guess. Maybe he will be appeased, until he realizes this move inches him only microscopically closer to title contention. Perhaps we win 40 games. Looking at the roster, defense is a concern, athleticism is a concern, Ray Allen's ankles are a concern. Over the next few years Pierce and Allen will begin to decline heavily and the Celts will be left with Jefferson in his prime with little help around him. Except for, maybe, BIG BABY!
Oh, and I'm bamboozled by how Wright fell out of favor so quickly. I remain convinced he is the clear-cut third best player in this draft. We shall see.

If it's dead ends with all the rumors...
It's time to deal Pierce. Word is he might demand a trade anyway. Keep #5 (or maybe trade down for more additional picks), keep Jefferson, and bring in a few young guys in exchange for Pierce. His value will only go down as he grows older and without bringing in a star to play alongside him now there is little chance I see that he will be happy or will ever be capable of leading this team anywhere. I hate the notion of perpetually getting younger but I think this is best move right now.
Hold that line!
Copied this from Celticsblog, which I'm sure you guys have already seen, but figured it would get the ball rolling:
"Shira Springer reports on the details of the mega 4 team deal that ended when Ainge walked away. Sounds like Steve Bulpett was right about the opinion in Boston of Jermaine O'Neal. I get the feeling Ainge would be interested if the price was very low, but he's not about to overpay. And speaking of overpaying, Kevin McHale still seems to be asking for the moon. He wants Al Jefferson and that #5 pick badly. My take is that all the teams (including the Suns, Lakers, and Pacers) are drawing lines in the sand trying to get each other to budge. The big question is who will blink in the next 2 days."
I can't tell you how scared I was this morning when I saw on SportsCenter that this deal was being considered, it would have been O'Neal for Jefferson and the #5. So glad to know it's off the table. What would you give up for O'Neal? Would you give up the #5? Do you even want O'Neal? Is there anyone out there we really want at their current pricetag? I feel like an idiot now for being so excited about trying to get KG, I think you guys were right in the end on that one.

Yi
I have the sense it's gonna be him at 5.
A possibility I had not previously considered: Sean Williams at 32.

Celtics Pride is officially dead
So Marion and KG have now both stated that they will not play in Boston. It wasn't all that long ago that star players were dying to play with the Celtics. Is it all Doc and Danny's fault? I mean, certainly if the Celts had a coach and GM players really respected guys like Marion and KG wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the team, right? This is almost like the Yankees becoming a laughingstock (they're well on their way!) and not being able to attract a single player. Tell me, who was the last star the Celtics acquired? Was it Dominique? If you say Vin Baker I'll kill you.

Rumors keep on coming
KG?
Word is Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff, and the No. 5 pick.
It's tempting, but I say no. I do not believe the roster that this trade would leave the Cs with is good enough to win a title (and it's old) and if that's the case how can you justify losing your two best young players plus the #5 pick? Unfortunately it's an impossibility to make this deal happen without losing Jefferson. Celticsblog dude says, "Give them Gomes and a future first if it gets the deal done." He does realize that Gomes is little more than a spare part on a good team, right?
Also, is it too soon to contract the Grizzlies?

Lots of buzz about the C's lately
Some young players they could deal, a pick they could deal. Many options. Let's try to ignore the fact that Ainge will certainly go with the wrong option and dicuss the following matters:
1) Shawn Marion - Phoenix is looking to deal him
2) Rashard Lewis - Seattle is looking to sign and trade
3) #5 pick - provided it's not dealt, who do you want? Too much Yi, too much Noah in the mock drafts I've been seeing. My preference remains Wright, Horford, Conley, Brewer.

OAK BLUFFS — Ry Yennie bettered his own school record in the discus to the surprise of some spectators yesterday in the lone home track meet for Martha's Vineyard, which cruised to a 123-13 victory over Tri-County.
Yennie's toss of 147-1 was beyond the final mark in the throwing area and came closer to than expected to some spectators.
A lot of quality tidbits there. School record in the discus!!! One home track meet? Very sad. 13 points? That is nearly impossible. I don't think we even beat anyone that badly in the state championship year of '98. Not even West Bridgewater.
